Parallel Community

This page has been posted to my website to let visitors know about Parallel Community with the intention of stimulating interest amongst some visitors to join.

Please note that this is the healingenergies-at-londonwest website and is not the Parallel Community website. The reproduction of Parallel Community material on this page does not infer endorsement by Parallel Community of the other content of this website.

We cannot be whole people unless we maintain a correct and proper relationship with the world around us. We cannot be whole people unless we take the correct action to maintain the correct and proper relationship with the world around us. Many parts of the human race have lost their connection with each other and with the natural world around us which has resulted in disfunctionality within communities and in the damage that the human race has caused to our planet and to the life forms on it. In the context of a website about healing, making effort to maintain the correct relationship is as meaningful a healing process as receiving energy healing treatments which is why this information about Parallel Community has been posted.

Background

At a conceptual level, the founders of Parallel Community here in the UK have recognised that the connections that we should all have with each other and with our planet that are so important to live life in a healthy and positive way tend to get broken in our western society. The result is that we get disconnected from each other and from the world around, cannot see the wider picture for the practical issues that we have to sort out in day to day life, do not know where to go for help and support, and do not always take the time out to get some private space so that we work our what our priorities in life should be.

At a practical level, the institutions that form part of the structural infrastructure of our society here in the UK are not always very responsive to the needs of communities at local or national level and do not always provide the support and problem solving that we as individuals ourselves or as members of communities need.

Variations on the theme of the UK experience are to be found in other countries around the world.

The founders of Parallel Community have the vision that if a way can be found to connect people and communities around the world who have similar life situations and issues, they can support each other, share ideas, let others know how they solved their problems, help each other to regain connections with other communities and the planet, and so on. Taking advantage of the internet technology which we are fortunate to have means that people from around the world can connect with each other easily to achieve the vision. The development of the Parallel Community website with its Members Section is a key tool in achieving the vision. On the ground, the development of a network of volunteer ‘Connectors’ helps to co-ordinate and organise on a local, regional or national basis as appropriate. The Connectors work to let their communities know about Parallel Community and to stimulate interest. Through the Parallel Community website, they can let everybody else know what issues they are trying to deal with and can connect with other Connectors and the communities that they represent who have the same issues.

Parallel Community was started in Cornwall a few years ago. The Members Section of its website opened for business in late 2009. It always takes a lot of time to launch new ventures and Parallel Community is still in its early growth stage. At the end of 2009 the number of signed up Connectors and Supporters went through the one thousand level so the project is now starting to get some critical mass. Parallel Community would be most pleased to hear from you wherever you are in the world if you might be interested in becoming a Connector or Member.

I have reproduced below from its website the purpose and aims statements for Parallel Community which give some idea of what it is about and also some information about the role of Connectors.

At the bottom of the page I give the contact details for Parallel Community.

Previous newsletters from Parallel Community have been reproduced in an archive on this website which may be found by clicking here.

There is usually a fund raising Open Day around May of each year which takes place in Cornwall. Information about this can be found in the Networking Section of the Information Centre on this website or on the Parallel Community website.

From the Parallel Community website………..

.

We are a varied group of people who care passionately about the way the world is heading. We are concerned that the voices of reason and commonsense, oriented to the long term, are no longer heard.

We understand the weaknesses of current power structures but we do not waste time and energy confronting these entrenched systems. We are helping build what can replace and transform them.

We actively support and foster a more compassionate and mutually understanding way of living in this world by encouraging people who care enough to come together and work together - wherever you are and whatever you're doing.

It doesn’t really matter what you believe, how you frame your sense of reality. What really matters is that, if you share the spirit and basic intent of what we’re doing, we have grounds to work together.

Whether you’re orientated to social, environmental, spiritual, humanitarian, creative or political matters, you’re welcome to participate – this is a broad-based spectrum of people.

By working with each other, a more powerful collective voice will be given to our concerns, and improved outcomes can arise from our efforts.

Together we can lay foundations for a healthier way of relating to each other and to the wider world, creating a bridge to a more joyful world that we’re proud to pass to our grandchildren. A world with hope and future.

Action

The 18th Century philosopher Edmund Burke once said, "For the triumph of evil it is necessary only that good people do nothing".

Peace and meaning start at a personal level, with the will to choose, practise and share a more harmonious way of life. It all begins with a smile and grows irresistibly. Have a good look at your own community and play a bigger part in it. Visit and talk to friends and neighbours with a new purpose - come out with it.

You can become a Parallel Community Supporter or Connector in the Meeting Place on this site, and communicate with others in all sorts of ways. This is the community-building process, and it's very much up to you what you put in and what you get out of it. We opened the interactive section in June 2009: it will take time to build up to its full potential and - guess what? - this depends on you!

But online interaction is not all...

A Parallel Community postcard displayed in a shop is a way to reach out to locals. Or get on the phone, give out cards, or spread copies of the Parallel Pix screensaver, or join our weekly meditation.

Watch our News page for the latest information. Let Parallel Community know what you are doing on the interactive section so that we can build a comprehensive international picture of our development.

But the main thing is, do what you feel called to do, what you feel you came here to do. No one is here on Earth by accident, and we all have a task, hard-wired into us. Now, more than ever, it is important to get on with it. Where several of us are gathered together, there shall the spirit and the life-force be.

Parallel Community is reaching out to the do-ers on this beautiful earth. The future will be guided by determined groups of people getting together and using their innate talents in smaller, real, communities to create lifestyles suitable for their native cultures, natural assets and spiritual needs.

Our Purpose

Our mission is to set in motion a parallel community of souls around the world - a network that spreads wherever it is needed.

This network will be dedicated to making things easier for people who are active in bringing new light, new ways of thinking and new initiatives into the world, to take practical, positive steps towards their goal. We are creating a platform where people may help, teach, inform, learn from and assist each other, wherever they are, in doing their chosen work.

Together through mutual help and support, we will generate the energy to make significant changes.

There is no master plan. We don't have a set philosophy. We're just drawing together good souls everywhere, who share a love for humanity and the earth, and all who live on her. The master-plan is what develops between us through our creative initiatives and collaborations.

We're not a centralised organisation and bureaucracy. There isn't an operating manual. It's a low-budget, 'work with what we've got' system. We write e-mails, get on the phone, create an interactive website, tell supporters what's happening through a regular newsletter, hold occasional gatherings and act as friends - and that's how a network works. That's how it twangs and ripples.

All communities are made up of very different people, but something binds us - a set of commonalities, a choice to cooperate, a resonance with each other. We choose to act together to further our common causes and so achieve much greater things than we can do if we work alone. If you resonate with this, this is for you.

Our Aims

This is a summary of our aims:

·        To inaugurate a 'parallel community' programme with which people who are concerned about current global thinking on all levels can identify, and through which they can make their own positive contribution towards creating solutions.

·        To establish that we as human beings have the absolute right to live in peace, not only with our neighbours but with everyone on this Earth. We hereby formally claim that right.

·        To re-establish our natural rapport with all other beings on the planet and in the cosmos.

·        To acknowledge our collective responsibility to care for, have compassion for and love our fellow humans, recognising that while we have amongst us a plethora of beliefs and ways, we must respect these differences and move beyond them, to what unifies us. The biggest tribe around here is humanity as a whole.

·        Millions of people in small groups feel exactly as we do, and at the moment there is no effective platform to express our collective distress. So we're using modern technology to bring our aims to the notice of all such people so that we can perhaps combine to make our voices heard and to sing together.

·        To present a non-confrontational alternative to the decision-making systems currently destroying our quality of life and ultimately our precious planet.

·        To establish that political decisions at any level based on war and killing fellow humans as a solution to global and local problems are no longer acceptable in the 21st Century. We cannot change the nature of warmongers and must have compassion for them as degenerates, but we need not and will not blindly accept their destructive decisions as we have done for generations.

·        To start in a small way in our own communities with the simple gestures of a smile and a helping hand for anyone we feel might need a lift.

·        To rebuild honest communications systems independent of 'spin'. Discussion, yes, argument and perpetual disagreement, no.

·        To provide a tangible message of hope for people who have lost their identity, their sense of wonder at the marvels of nature, and their ability to laugh in the pure enjoyment of living.

·        To establish a website and network so that people can join the Parallel Community.

·        To use the massive energy available in human hearts and minds to make a difference to our future.

Connectors

Connectors form the core of Parallel Community - key volunteers who help coordinate and organise on a local, regional or national basis.

You might already run or be a key part of an existing group or network which you wish to affiliate with Parallel Community, or you might wish to start or help start a group or network in your locality or your area of interest, in 'real life' or online.

Your role is to connect Parallel Community with a wider group of people in your area or with a network with a specific area of interest.

You can also work 'horizontally' to connect disparate groups which might benefit from knowing each other. You can work 'vertically' by connecting people in your area or interest-group with the Parallel Community, and vice versa.

Your group or network can have any number of people - a few people discussing things or working on something, or thousands with a similar interest or agenda. What binds us together is that, in a wide variety of ways, we're all committed to helping humanity and our planet correct the mess we're all in, bringing a fundamental change to the world during the 21st Century.

Somehow we need to find new structures, new ways of going on, which perhaps are outside politics, outside religion, outside the institutions that we now have. - John Watts

The more Connectors we have, the stronger the voice to build and promote this revitalised way of thinking and living, and the more we each can support each other in doing what we're doing.

It's a holistic exchange and feed-around system which works in all directions. The Parallel Community core team is here to coordinate the overall life of the organism, but we're not directing it and we're only partially driving it. It's also driven by Connectors and Supporters, between each other and with the core team. It's happening in a number of countries, growing in an organic, cellular way.

In order to assist you with connecting people up, we have packs of lapel badges, window stickers, leaflets, postcards and letterheads available to help you get started.

We will provide connectors with regular news about events and happenings across the world to enable them to create links to other groups in their own way. Connectors may also provide such information themselves, on this site.

Many hands make light work. A key aim of Parallel Community is to share skills, contacts and gifts, to help everyone make progress more easily, and to add power to their actions.

If you're not a Connector and you're interested in becoming one, download this registration form and send it to us by e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by post. Once accepted as a Connector, you will then be given special access rights to the Connectors' sections of this site, and you will be included in discussions and information between Connectors.
