The Egyptian Cartouche

The Egyptian Cartouche is the name given to a series of energies that were worked with in the temples of Ancient Egypt.

This page gives information about the background to the Cartouche energies and how they may be passed on to other people.

Murry Hope

Murry Hope is an English psychic and metaphysician who through her lifetime has had strong connections with Ancient Egypt and the galactic resonances, particularly from the Sirius star system. When in Egypt, she felt drawn to certain symbols that appeared with regularity on the walls and monuments of different temple sites and started to work with them. She felt that they were representations of energies in symbolic form that were known and understood as archetypes by the Egyptians.

Murry worked with these symbols over many years for the purposes of helping her own self understanding and awareness and for attaining heightened levels of consciousness.

She decided that she would like to introduce the energies into the public domain. In 1983 Murry selected 25 of these symbols, called them The Egyptian Cartouche, and commissioned Martin Jones to develop artwork so that a deck of cards of the symbols could be created. Murry and her colleague Jed Collard created a company called Ostaris Publications and published 3,000 decks of cards that year that were accompanied by a small instruction booklet. The successful sale of these decks led Jed Collard to approach St. Martin's Press, the well known American book publisher, to explore the possibilities of a commercial collaboration in respect of the decks. St.Martin’s Press were interested in negotiating for the worldwide distribution rights and asked Jed and Murry if the size of the cards could be increased and if the small booklet could be expanded into a book. This was done and the decks and books were printed by St.Martins under licence from Ostaris.

The deck and book are not in print at the present time and can only be obtained by acquiring second hand (used / preowned) copies.

The name Cartouche

In ancient Egypt, the written and carved hieroglyphic forms of the names of the Pharaohs (and sometimes other high status officials) were encircled with a design that is known as a cartouche. The cartouche design showed a rope looped in an oval shape and tied at one end. It has been suggested by scholars of Ancient Egyptian that the rope symbolised the encirclement of what was within by the cosmos. The role of many of the Pharaohs was to hold the energy balance between our three dimensional world and other cosmic dimensions of consciousness so there could be some truth in what the scholars have intuited.

It is believed that the name cartouche was given to this design by Napoleon Bonaparte’s troops when they were in Egypt. The designs looked similar in shape to the cartridges used in the French guns. The French word for these cartridges was cartouche.

Murry Hope felt that it was appropriate to use the cartouche design to represent the symbols as being encircled by the cosmic whole of which they are part.

Kathleen Milner and the Tera-Mai Association

Kathleen Milner is the American Energy Master who has been given a number of healing energies from the non-physical dimensions with the intention that she would introduce them to our world and to teach them. Some of these energies include Seichem, Sakara and Cahokia. Kathleen’s website is at www.kathleenmilner.com.

In her Spring 2007 newsletter, which may be found at http://www.kathleenmilner.com/NewsletterSpring2007.htm, Kathleen gives a brief commentary about the Egyptian Cartouche. She advises that she was asked by a Higher Being to ‘clean’ the energies represented in Murry Hope’s deck of cards so that they might be passed on safely to other people. Kathleen obliged and started to pass the Egyptian Cartouche initiations to Seichem Masters. Kathleen advises that initiators need to be able to hold enough fire element energy to be able to pass on the Cartouche initiations successfully and that Seichem Masters are be able to hold enough fire element energy for the initiations.

I was initiated into the Egyptian Cartouche in Glastonbury in August 2000. My teacher used Kathleen’s initiation methodology. He was Head of Lineage for another energy system that I work with.

Kathleen created the Tera-Mai Association which is a trademarked name in the USA and which might be trademarked in other jurisdictions around the world. Kathleen uses the word Tera-Mai in front of the name of the energies that she works with to indicate that the energy has been passed on using her initiation methodology. Membership of the Tera-Mai Association is open to students who have been trained in any of Kathleen’s various energies and who commit to the Tera-Mai conditions of membership, namely that they will not receive initiations into any energies that are not part of the Tera-Mai series of energies and that they will follow the prescribed Tera-Mai methodology for passing the Tera-Mai energies on to other people. The Tera-Mai Association therefore ensures quality control amongst its membership so that the outside world can have confidence that they will receive the correct initiations and teachings from members.

Kathleen is of the opinion that if a Tera-Mai member receives initiations into energies other than the ones that she works with, the member will lose the Tera-Mai initiations and will not be able to work with the Tera-Mai energies correctly.

There is another page on my website about the Tera-Mai Association and related issues which may be found by clicking here. I am not eligible for membership of the Tera-Mai Association as I work with energies outside of the Tera-Mai series. This means that any person learning Tera-Mai energies with me will not be eligible for membership of the Tera-Mai Association. An existing bona fide member of the Tera Association will lose their eligibility for membership if they learn any Tera-Mai energy from me.

The standard method of teaching

The standard method of passing on the Egyptian Cartouche energies is for the student to be initiated into each energy one by one. The student sits in a chair and an attunement is carried out in something similar to a Reiki attunement style.  Prior to each attunement, the teacher whispers into the ear of the student Murry Hope’s interpretations of the energies. The student is then usually left to meditate on the attunement before coming back and to discuss anything coming out of meditation with fellow students.  The energies are usually passed on over a two or three day period with the student receiving the initiations into several energies during the course of each day.  There is not usually any practical work in class.

Using the Cartouche energies

The Cartouche energies may be worked with in a number of ways:

·        By connecting with the consciousness of the energies, wisdom and knowledge about them may be received which helps us with the expansion of our personal consciousness.

·        To develop relationships with the deities such as Isis and Osiris.

·        To assist with self healing.

·        To assist with healing other people.

·        For the purposes of divination.

My experiences and comments about the Egyptian Cartouche

The way that I understand the word archetype is as follows. There are real events and real energies all around us. The interpretation and projections that the human mind puts upon these creates a sea of energy containing these interpretations. The more the number of people creating these projections, the bigger and stronger the sea of energy. I call this sea of energy the archetypal dimension of human consciousness.

This archetypal dimension of consciousness can be a fertile learning and experience dimension and many energy healers with good psychic ability have been able to retrieve valuable information from it.

There are some downsides to working with this dimension of consciousness.

People can confuse what they encounter in it for the real events or the real energies. If over time a considerable difference develops between original events and energies and the archetypal remembrances or interpretations of them, the archetypal imaging starts to move from being an accurate record to a new virtual creation that is disconnected from reality. This creates potential for misunderstandings.

Also, it is possible for black magicians to manipulate this dimension of consciousness and to distort the archetypal imaging and to feed off the energy that the humans give to the distortions. Through black magic they can enable negative entities to anchor themselves in it. All this opens up the possibilities of negative psychic infection for people working in the archetypal dimension of human consciousness.  There was widespread corruption amongst the priest class of Ancient Egypt and they misused energy through black magic practices including hooking into the archetypal dimension. This archetypal dimension of human consciousness exists outside of our dimension of linear time so the work of the black magicians of Ancient Egypt is still there.

Kathleen’s initiation method involves two symbols outside of the Cartouche symbols. One is intended to help us to connect the day to day part of ourselves here in our linear dimension to those parts of ourselves in other dimensions of consciousness which we might not normally have much awareness of. This reconnection should enable us to retrieve from our higher aspects any previous experiences with the Cartouche energies. Often this might come through by way of inner awareness or knowing about the Cartouche energies once we have set our intentions appropriately.  The second symbol helps us to connect with the archetypal dimension of human consciousness so that we can connect with the archetypal understandings of the Cartouche energies there and to retrieve these understandings for our own use. Again, these might come through by way of inner awareness or knowing about the Cartouche energies once we have set our intentions appropriately.  Kathleen’s initiation procedure includes the two connection symbols which means that the connection to the higher aspects of ourselves and to the archetypal dimension are open during the initiation process.  Despite the risks of psychic infection from the archetypal dimension referred to above, the Cartouche energies that were passed on to myself were ‘clean’ in the sense that they did not contain any negativity or psychic infection. I presume that when Kathleen refers to ‘cleaning’ the energies in her article, she means protection from negativity and psychic infection and that the energies being passed on are free of the effects of any black magic. I have no problem, therefore, with passing these energies on to other people.

Where I diverge from the work of Murry Hope and Kathleen Milner (who does not seem to have brought in much by way of new understandings about the energies and seems mainly to have passed on Murry Hope’s interpretation) is with the interpretation of the symbols. I do not resonate at all with some of the interpretations and cannot recognise them. This may be in part because I prefer not to go to the archetypal dimension but instead to connect with the real energies behind the Cartouche direct.

At the time of posting, I have worked with some of the energies of the Egyptian Cartouche a great deal and with others not a lot. Additionally, it has been shown to me that some of the Egyptian Cartouche energies are linked to galactic resonances associated with various star systems and the dimensions of consciousness related to them.  I have never had the time to follow this through and to understand more. At the present time, therefore, I have not developed my own training manuals for the Egyptian Cartouche.

I have been able to use some of the Egyptian Cartouche energies in healing situations with good results. I have also used some of them with clients to assist them in developing their spiritual path.

Learning the Cartouche with me

Given that I feel that there is more understanding to be achieved for the Egyptian Cartouche energies than I have at present, I do not actively seek to pass them on to other people. However, sometimes people do ask about learning them with me in particular as they feel some kind of resonance about where I am coming from with my energy work.

I am able to do the following for people who wish to learn the Egyptian Cartouche:

·        To pass on the training manual that I received from my teacher in both paper and electronic form on CD. The CD version is in Microsoft Word.

·        To pass on the initiations in the same manner as taught by Kathleen Milner.

·        To give commentary as we work through the various energies about my experiences with them. This commentary will have to be verbal as I have not written about my experiences.

·        Time permitting, we can spend some time giving you some experience of receiving the energies in Reiki hands on style to  find ways relevant to you of working with any with which you feel a particular affinity, trying to connect with past life experiences with any of the energies, etc..

·        To show you how to pass on the initiations.

·        Certification confirming that you are able to pass on the initiations.

If we are still in contact, I will pass on my Egyptian Cartouche manual some time in the years ahead when I have written one.

The initiation methodology is somewhat similar to a standard Reiki methodology so should be easy to learn.

I do not teach divination but there is some simple guidance about this in Murry Hope’s book.

As advised already, the deck of cards and the book which Murry Hope produced for the Egyptian Cartouche energies are no longer in print and it is not possible to obtain new copies. I have purchased a small stock of used decks and books with the intention of making them available to people who learn from me. Although used, they are in good condition and not showing signs of a lot of usage. I have paid on average around 15 UK Pounds for each deck of cards and around 15 UK Pounds also for each book. I can let people who learn with me have decks and books for what I paid for them. Alternatively, it might be possible to find copies yourself from internet search.

The minimum amount of time needed to pass on the initiations and to have a brief discussion about each would be two days. If you would prefer to have more of my time to experience receiving the energies from me in hands on healing style or to do past life work with the energies or anything else that might be appropriate, we could spend an additional day or two together.

If you do not live near me and either you have to travel to me or I travel to you, it would be appropriate in terms of time management to try to do two days of initiations.

If you live near me and would prefer not to receive so many initiations one after the other in the same day, we could maybe salami slice the process and meet for half days or third days and spread the equivalent time of two days over several days. I am happy to be flexible with this.

As I am not actively promoting any teaching of the Egyptian Cartouche, it is possible that anybody learning with me would be learning on a one to one basis and would not have any classmates to compare experiences with.

I usually quote a minimum daily charge of 130 Pounds per person for my time in responses to enquiries about training. If as does happen I have only one person at a particular time wishing to learn an energy, this charge enables me to earn a reasonable amount for my time. This charge is reduced on a per person basis if I am teaching more than person, thereby helping to make learning more affordable. For the Egyptian Cartouche, this charge would cover also the cost of the paper and CD versions of the training manual.

Prerequisites

The following are prerequisites for learning the Egyptian Cartouche with me:

·        You should be experienced in energy work to at least the level of Reiki Master.

·        It would be helpful but not essential to have worked also with some energies other than Reiki so that you are well experienced with energies.

·        It would be helpful to have the ability to get a psychic connection with Higher Beings and energies for the purposes of communication with them. If you are not sure about this, there are some simple exercises from some of my training manuals that I can send to you in advance of us meeting so that you can make a start on this.

·        To be a person who will treat the Egyptian Cartouche energies with respect and to conduct yourself in a way subsequent to the initiations that does not bring the Cartouche into disrepute.

Kathleen Milner refers to the need to be a Seichem Master before she will pass the Egyptian Cartouche initiations to people. She says that the reason for this is the amount of fire energy that they can hold. I am a Seichem Master but do not resonate with this guidance at all. However, one of the energies in the Egyptian Cartouche that people are initiated into is the element of fire so people who did not have fire energy previously will have it after the initiations. I would not restrict therefore initiations to people who are Seichem Masters.

The Energy of Set

In Kathleen’s commentary on her website, she advises that she does not teach the energy of Set. I do not resonate at all with Kathleen’s comments about Set and evil. No disrespect intended to her but I feel that she has got sidetracked by projections about Set that the humans have put into the archetypal dimension and has not connected with the real energy outside of the archetypal dimension. My teacher found the energy of Set and passed it to me. I pass it on to other people. Please click here to go to another page on my website to read my commentary about Set. My personal experience is that we are moving into the realm of the chaotic (unstructured) energies when working with Set and have found Set extremely useful in destructuring problem energies so that they disappear and for psychic protection.
